Dental implantology is a procedure aiming at the functional rehabilitation or replacement of lost teeth. This is achieved by surgically implanting titanium screws into the maxillary or mandibular bones. The implant itself is then fitted with connecting elements that alternatively will hold fixed or removable prostheses in place, in order to improve chewing functionality.

Dental implant procedures are divided into two stages, surgical and prosthetic. During the first, surgical phase the implant is inserted into the bone under local anaesthesia. This occurs pain-free and is less itrusive than a complicated tooth extraction. The wound is closed and left to heal for three to six months during which osseointegration (growth of bone tissue as it assimilates implanted devices) occurs. During every phase oft the treamtment patients are provided with temporary prosthetics.

After 3-6 months the implants can be supplied with some final already visible in the mouth prosthetics.

Depending on individual situation and needs the missing teeth can be replaced by prosthetic solutions such as crowns, bridges or dentures.
